National Interest in Bariatric Surgery

On behalf of a PR Firm, Regionalist created a synthetic measure of interest in bariatric surgery from a blend of proprietary and public information. Subset that data by geography and produced custom infographics and maps. Completed a 1,500 word report of the analytic findings with layout.

Methodology: Rankings of the 50 states  and top 50 metro areas by combining provider per capita, search popularity, and obesity risk. Search popularity used Google Trends data for a  year, also and collated by State or City geography.  Interest scores were the normalized average of the surgeons per capita, obesity risk, search volume, and search popularity. Each metric contributed a maximum of 25 points. Detailed data on performed medical procedures is regulated by federal law.

Sources:  Data used to create this ranking include propriety surgery center and search data.
